Authentic, natural, organic photography

I ‘make’ photographs rather than ‘take’ them.

In these days of highly over-produced (and fake) images, my photographs aim to be more authentic, natural, organic representations of what I observe.

I only every use natural light, rarely use a tripod and use the bare minimum of post processing in my photographs. A minimalist approach.

Instead my focus is on identifying the natural patterns and symmetry that hide within the beautiful and dramatic coastal landscape that surrounds me on the Hartland Peninsula.

The result is a refreshingly genuine and organic representation of landscape, flora and fauna in all its beautiful natural colour and texture; attributes that are constantly changing according to the light and conditions of the day.

Many photographers today seem to spend much more time in the editing room than out on the field. I do the opposite. It is not an easy skill to capture a moment in time with perfection; perfect focus, exposure and composition. But that is what I strive for every time I go out. And every so often I am rewarded by a gem.

My hope is to produce photographs that induce calm reflection of the beauty in nature all around us. The beauty in nature and landscape is there to see, but we have to look closely, observe and be patient.
