No.2 - Wild Cornwall; from the Cape to Lands End
My walk along the South West Coast Path from Cape Cornwall to Lands End.
Cornwall is a special place. It conjures up happy family beach holidays from my childhood (mainly on the North Coast at Constantine Bay/Padstow). And combined with trips to remote coastal regions of the highlands of Scotland, it is the reason why I chose to live just across the border on the wild Hartland Peninsula in North Devon. Yes I confess to being a Devonite! —though this is primarily a querk of consituency mapping, since our little peninsula is directly connected to North Cornwall and bears all the hallmarks of the wild cornish landscape.
This walk from Cape Cornwall (shown in the image above) to Lands End (the most western point of the British Isles) captures the essence of what wild Cornwall is all about —dramatic coastal scenery, stunning beaches, great views and flora and fauna in abundance.
Feel free to leave a comment below if you wish. It’s always interesting to hear from readers/viewers. Have you done this walk? What did you think?
A Note on my Walking Videos – ‘Slow Journalism’
It is said that a ‘picture paints a thousand words’ and I curate my walking videos with this in mind. These videos are intended as both an ‘aide-memoire’ and a kind of ‘slow journalism’ meditative experience. No commentary, descriptions, explanations or distractions. Just sights and sounds. The idea is to simply capture a real-time, in-sequence, unedited essence of the trail, the journey and the place – its wildness, its nature, geography, geology and scenic beauty. And in a way that might serve as a catalyst for the curious to find out more…
On the trail, it is the meditative rhythm of the footstep, the birdsong, the dynamic contrasts of loud and soft sounds, the crashing of the waves and other sounds of nature that make it such a rich experience for the soul. And it is these elements that I try to capture the essence of in my videos —although my camera is put away (out of sight and mind) for most of the time in order that I can be fully present.
